Custom Guitar Tab Brief Checklist

A checklist for sending the details that make a bespoke lead guitar part easier to write, quote, revise, and deliver.

A better brief creates a better solo

The fastest way to improve a custom guitar solo commission is to send a focused brief. The brief does not need to be long, but it should remove avoidable guesswork.

Start with the song, the section, and the musical goal. Then add the guitar-specific constraints that affect how the solo will feel under the fingers.

Send these details

  • Song link, demo, backing track, or reference recording
  • Solo start and end point
  • Desired difficulty level
  • Tuning, capo, fret count, and guitar type
  • Techniques you want included or avoided
  • Reference style, mood, or general lead guitar direction
  • Deadline or preferred delivery window
  • Revision expectations

Say what should not happen

Negative direction is often useful. If you do not want shred, say it. If you hate tapped lines, say it. If the solo must stay below the 15th fret, say it. Clear limits help the final GP5 and PDF tab match the real musical situation.

Keep the goal musical

A custom guitar tab is not only a list of notes. It should help the song feel stronger. The more clearly the brief explains the purpose of the solo, the easier it is to write a lead part that feels intentional.
